This post kicks off a series that will outline some ideas for businesses looking to get into video podcasting – either daily, weekly, monthly or just whenever.

Now more than ever, in my home market of Minneapolis/St. Paul and beyond, the real estate segment is feeling the effects of the sluggish economy.

Had your home appraised lately? It’s not worth what you think it is.

If you are a realtor you know full well what homes are going for. It’s your business to help people sell or buy a home and you’re probably looking for new ways to get the word out about the great homes you represent – or ways to convince buyers you can help them get a good deal.

Whether it lives on your Website or on iTunes or YouTube, a short video podcast for real estate can be an affordable investment in drumming up new business and inspiring repeat business down the road.

Here are five ideas for a business podcast for real estate:

  1. Guided walking tour of a new property for sale
  2. Customer success story (Buying and selling)
  3. How-to (Steps to take to put house for sale, etc…)
  4. Explainers (What fees are charged at closing, etc…)
  5. Topical (Importance of staging, should you pay buyer’s closing costs, etc…)

Some things to keep in mind… Who will host your real estate podcast? Better be someone who’s good on camera, if not, it’s just plain bad PR for your business and you’ll lose any potential gain right off the bat.

Also, it’s not a commercial. Not necessarily. Think of a video podcast as your very own “TV show.” The way you present the content and information is what’s important. Not who you are and why you’re “the best.”

One final note… prepare to promote your podcast once you get it up and running. Put a link in your email or snail mail marketing materials and mention it in your newspaper ad.

Your customers are watching online video. Give them something to watch. At an affordable production cost that won’t break into your commission.
